Cyber Security Challenge – Xmas Cipher (2012)

It’s that time of the year, Cyber Security Challenge UK has release a new cipher for you all to play over the festive period. The Christmas cipher is kindly sponsored by Advanced Security Consulting (@justASCuk).

As with all previous challenges, this cipher can be cracked, it may or may not be easy but it can be done. Clues will not be given out unless its absolutely necessary. @justASCuk is giving away a cool prize to the first person that sends in the correct win code and a description of how the challenge was cracked.

I hope you will all enjoy the challenge and that you learn something new as a result.

How I cracked and won the second challenge

On the 7th October, Cyber Security Challenge UK released the first of three new challenges, this article will discuss the second challenge, which was released on Friday.

This challenge was aimed at university students but anyone could take part. I personally thought this challenge would be much harder to complete than the original opening challenge and the one aimed at under-18's. The challenge was designed to test both your technical and investigative skills, with that let's begin.

How I cracked the first challenge

On the 7th October, Cyber Security Challenge UK released the first of three new challenges, this article will discuss the first challenge, which was released on Thursday.

The first challenge was aimed at under-18′s, so I didn’t think it would be too difficult to solve. From the CSC's website you were given two clues as to how to go about cracking this challenge. First you needed a basic understanding of encoding and second, you needed to know something about cryptography, with that lets begin.
